    Midway Cemetery

    Midway Cemetery

Midway Church was a central point in the bustling town of Midway around the time of the Revolutionary War. It was founded by congregants from Dorchester Massachusets who came to Georgia for religious freedom and a new place to grow their cotton. Today the cemetery remains, but guess what...it is closed on Mondays. Imagine that. The Law side of my family became a staple in this and the Sunbury community. All that is left of Sunbury today is a cemetery...and in it several L

    Last of the Living

Yesterday I bought a Bible, a Family Bible from the 1800's. It was the possession of the Deihl family from Pennsylvania that through some long lost relative, last of the family name or some other happenstance it ended up on Ebay. From there we took a long haul to Sunbury GA to see the only thing left of Sunbury GA, the cemetery. Laws, Laws, everywhere...they were key to the history of Sunbury, Midway and bringing Sea Island Cotton to Georgia. The Midway Cemetery was LOCKED! LOCKED! I missed seeing more of my ancestors graves because
    Finding Sam

    Finding Sam

This is a photo that I have wondered about for many years, and one that I will feel I have actually 'arrived' in my genealogy when I can find him. Sam Chapman. If anyone knows Sam Chapman, who is reportedly 'a cousin'...speak up!
